Why bother cleaning Amazon links
A product URL copied from search results can run past 300 characters. Most of it is Amazon's own tracking: the search you typed, which result you clicked, the session. None of it matters to the shopper, and it makes the link look like spam in a caption or a DM.
The short form is the product ID, called an ASIN, behind /dp/, plus your tag. It opens the same product page and credits you the same way.
Links it understands
/Product-Name/dp/B0XXXXXXXX/ref=…, the usual product URL/gp/product/B0XXXXXXXXand the mobile/gp/aw/d/form- Old
/exec/obidos/ASIN/links andproduct-reviewspages - smile.amazon.com and m.amazon.com links
- Amazon sites in other countries, from amazon.ca and amazon.co.uk to amazon.co.jp and amazon.com.au
Before you share it
Amazon requires the sentence "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases" wherever you use their links, and the FTC wants a clear disclosure next to the link itself. The disclosure generator writes both for the platform you post on.
